Clark and Betty Paxton are celebrating their 65th wedding anniversary. They were high school sweethearts and were married in Norman, Oklahoma on July 2, 1955. They have lived in the Newcastle area for 48 years. Their three children, all graduated from Newcastle High School, Daniel and wife Lori of Glenrose, Texas, Rebecca and husband Rev. Jay Badry of Colorado Springs, CO. Timothy and wife Victoria of Okemah, Oklahoma, nine grandchildren, (one deceased) and eight great grandchildren. Clark served eight years in the active Air Force stationed In California and Germany. He then finished up 20 years in the Air Force reserves. He worked for civil service at TAFB, transferred and retired from FAA. Betty was employed at Kenny Skaggs Tag Agency, in Oklahoma City, as manager for 35 years. Through the years they have enjoyed travelling, mostly to visit family, from one coast of the USA to the other, trips to Germany, Canada and Mexico. Clark and Betty are active members at Woodland Hills Baptist Church and give God all the glory for their wonderful family and long marriage. They will celebrate at a future date, with all their children and family in Colorado Springs, CO.

A damaging wind event blew its way into town early Sunday morning wreaking havoc to anything that dared cross its path. The system moved in from the west bringing wind speeds that measured 60-80 miles per hour, with Newcastle seeing the highest winds recorded that night 83-86 mph. According to a Mesonet meteorologist damage from straight-line wind gusts can be equivalent to that caused by a weak tornado.
