Senior moments from the Newcastle Senior Center
DOROTHY’S DABLINGS/ Senior Citizen happenings
Hello Newcastle Seniors! Is everyone enjoying the cool weather? Autumn is such a beautiful season. There seems to always be an air of anticipation, like something is about to happen.
Only nine days away until the Annual Fall Fundraiser featuring Danny Watters and his Bluegrass-Gospel Band.
October 19 will be a night of good Country, Bluegrass and Gospel music. And of course, there is always a joke or 10! I will have more details concerning the other featured bands, as well as the food items that will be for sale in next week’s column.
Danny and his band so graciously do two fundraisers each year for our senior center. I want to thank everyone in advance who contributes to this.
Once again the fun begins at 6 p.m., Saturday, October 19. Save that date! Tickets are only $5 at the door.
The numbers have really grown at the center the past few weeks. It might have something to do with the food. It is very good and balanced with a delicious entree, salad bar, homemade desserts and plenty of coffee and tea. Other drinks are available upon request.
It is simply the best deal in town! Just think of all the possibilities you will have to connect with old friends or make new ones.
We also have various games going on throughout the month. BINGO is every second and fourth Tuesday of each month and BUNCO is on the first Thursday. Both activities begin after lunch at 12:45 p.m. and cost $3.00. Dominoes can be played everyday with no charge and have no start or stop time.
The center is available for rent at $100.00 per day with a refund of $25 if the center is clean afterwards. We decorate for each season and holiday, especially December. If you would like to reserve the center in December please contact the senior center president, Judy and get your name added to the list asap because availability is limited.
You can reach the senior center at 405-387-2100 between the hours of 8:00 am to 1:00 p.m. Hours may vary a bit depending on the day.
If you are unable to come to the center but would like a meal delivered, please call 405-387-2100.
We also have a transportation service available for anyone who needs a ride to the senior center. Our van will pick you up form your home and drop you back off at your home free of charge.
We just love people, especially seniors, children, teens and young adults. I hope i didn't leave anyone out.
Have a wonderful week. See you next week.
