Senior moments from the Newcastle Senior Center

DOROTHY’S DABLINGS/ Senior Citizen happenings

Hello Newcastle Seniors! Yeah! We got a little rain and wind. One of our large beautiful Bradford Pear trees got split in two Saturday night. That sure ruins the beauty of a tree.

Truman Young did a fund-raiser Saturday night at the center to benefit uninsured folks. It was a big success and he says he will do another one later this year. His daughter, Gayla, sang a few songs. It is always a treat to hear her sing. There were other family members, and friends, contributing their talents. The Gospel/Bluegrass Band, Chosen Few, were also on the program. We are so blessed to have so much musical talent in our community.

Danny Watters and his Bluegrass band will be doing our fall fund-raiser on October 19. We have so much fun when Danny and his boys put on a show. You never know who will show up to perform. There will be more information as it gets closer.

Please remember that we have BINGO on the second and fourth Tuesday and BUNCO on the first Thursday of each month. Those games begin right after lunch, around 12:45 p.m., and cost $3.00 each. Dominoes are played every day. Those games are just for fun but they will challenge anyone who thinks they can win. There are prizes to be won at Bunco and Bingo.

Also, there are various activities and fun things to do at the Newcastle Library. I know they have the Book Worm mobile that delivers books one day a month to any senior unable to come to the library. They have art and coloring (with colored pencils) scheduled each month as well as other activities. Call 387-5076 for a complete listing.

Lunch is served every day Monday thru Friday, 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., to seniors 55 or older. If you are unable to come to the center but would like a meal delivered, call 387-2100. If you need a ride, our van will pick you up and deliver you home free of charge. Our van is handicap equipped and our driver will treat you well.

Our cook, Esme, is not just a good cook. She is a certified trained Chef. And Jessica is excellent with those salads and desserts. So come on in and be pleased as we are by their talents and abilities.

Have a wonderful week and I will chat more with you next week. Enjoy and be careful on this Labor Day weekend.

“Come to me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.” Jesus Christ. Matthew 11:28
