Senior moments from the Newcastle Senior Center

DOROTHY’S DABLINGS/ Senior Citizen happenings

Hello Newcastle Seniors! I hope all things are going well in the Tri City area. It is still raining. No matter how much or how long it rains and we can’t see the sun, we always know it is there. When everything looks the darkest with our life, we can still see the Son and know He is there. So just hang on and hold on.

We live in a wonderfully united town. Our police and fire departments are just the best. They are so good about having programs that include interacting and teaching school children. They are willing to give their time, and even their money if there is a need. The children seem to just love it.

And now for an “atta boy” to our local Pioneer library. The branch manager Phil Clark has committed all Wednesdays in October to be at the Senior Center to help anyone who needs help with their electronics. I could fill up his whole month by myself but I won’t. Everyone can have a turn. I have mentioned this before but I feel like it is worth mentioning again. The library has programs that benefit all ages. They are not just about reading, although that is the main goal. They have hundreds of books that can be checked out. They have movies, magazines and newspapers that can be checked out as well. There are people there to help you find what you want. It is a wonderful place to just sit and read. Do you get the idea that I like libraries?

The Pioneer Library has a program call ‘Book Worm’ where they will deliver books to those who can’t come to the library. They are still doing the group coloring for seniors on the first Saturday of each month. That is so fun. I am involved in several coloring books now at home. Don’t laugh. We will never be too old to do kid stuff. Besides, we use pencils and not crayons.

Friday, Oct. 12, is music night. It all begins about 5:30 p.m. and there is no charge at the door. Just bring something to share for dinner and everyone will eat together. We also invite anyone who wants to give a small donation to help cover expenses.

Friday, Oct. 19, is the Fall Fundraiser with the Danny Watters Bluegrass Band. This is a very important event. We have two each year and they are necessary for the operation of the center. The cover charge is $5at the door. Danny and his band are so generous with their time and talent and we can never thank them enough. There will be other bands but I’m not sure of the names. It is always a lot of fun. We will have items to buy chances on, things to bid on, a 50-50 jar and door prizes. And probably more things to do. We will have a little variety in the food area. But we still have Cinnamon Rolls and Chocolate Sheet cake. Other food items are Bar-B-Q Sandwiches, Loaded Tacos, Frito Chili Pie and Nachos, The prices on the food are very affordable and it will go for a really good cause. So come on and enjoy some good foot stomping, hand clapping music, good food and a lot of good fellowship.

Also, come and enjoy lunch with us any day, Monday thru Friday, 11:30 a.m. To 12:30 p.m. We just love folks.

Have a good week. I will see you all next week.
