Funeral services held for former City Manager Nazar

Former Newcastle City Manager Nick Allen Nazar, age 61, of Oklahoma City, passed away on August 17, 2021. Funeral services were at 1 p.m. on Saturday, August 21, 2021 at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, 1506 Imhoff Road, Norman, OK 73072. Interment followed at Washington Cemetery in Washington, Oklahoma.

Nazar was born February 13, 1960, in Phoenix, Arizona, to the late Nicholas Nazar and Ruth Aslee (Roberts) Nazar. He grew up in Oklahoma with his three brothers: Ben, Bill and John. Nick grew up in the country where he learned the value of hard work from his father whom he adored.

In 1983, he met his best friend, Sandra Lee Bearden, and he proposed three months later. They were married shortly after on September 13, 1983. Together they would share 38 years of memories full of love and happiness.

He always wanted a big family, and together they raised their five children: Nastasia, Petre, Nicholas, Alexander and Anna. He was a loving and devoted father.

Nick was always aspiring for greatness, and he worked tirelessly to serve his family, church and community. He served many callings in the Church of Latter-Day Saints, and served his community including non-profits. He always aspired to be better and encouraged his children to do the same.

After marrying the love of his life, he went back to college at the University of Science and Arts of Oklahoma and received a degree in Political Science. He continued his education at the University of Oklahoma, receiving a Masters in Public Administration.

Throughout his life he enjoyed several jobs. He was a volunteer firefighter, first responder, worked as a DJ for a radio station, built highways, sold fish, taught graduate level classes, and worked at his father’s fence company. After he obtained his degree, he began working with the City of Newcastle as a grant writer. With his high aspirations and hard work, he worked his way up to being the City Manager.

Even with all his accomplishments, his proudest accomplishment was always his family. He was a strong father and husband.

He worked hard to be a good example to his family and be someone they could always rely on. As serious and hardworking as he could be, he always made time to laugh and make his family laugh.

Those left to cherish his memory include: his wife, Sandra Nazar; his children, Nastasia Nazar of Norman, Petre Nazar and wife Nancy of Littlerock, California, Nicholas Nazar and wife Crissandra of Newcastle, Alexander Nazar, and Anna Rush and husband Allen of Edmond; his brothers, Ben Doherty and John Nazar; his grandchildren; nephews; nieces; cousins; and a host of friends and loved ones far too numerous to mention.

Services were under the direction of Havenbrook Funeral Home of Norman. Online condolences may be shared at www.havenbrookfuneralhome.com.
