She graduated in 1956 from South Side High School, located south of Altus, Oklahoma. While in high school she was a standout basketball player and remained a fan of the game throughout her life.

She enjoyed having lunch dates with her daughters, and with the ladies at Mayridge Baptist Church. She was active in a Bunco Group and a Marble Social Group.

Throughout her life, Dorothy enjoyed writing poetry for her family and friends. She even wrote a weekly column in the Newcastle Pacer for the Senior Citizens. She and Don enjoyed traveling and she was an avid Oklahoma City Thunder Fan.
