Senior moments at the Newcastle Senior Center

DOROTHY’S DABLINGS/ Senior Citizen happenings

Pacer Columnist

Hello Newcastle Seniors! What a beautiful day Labor Day was. It is a day for laborers to rest and play. It marks the end of Summer but welcomes in the beginning of the beautiful season called Fall. There is so much activity and things to do in the fall. I know football is a biggie, as well as Homecoming. It is such a lovely time to travel down the roads and byways seldom used and view the wonders of the world that God has made. I’m ready to take a trip now but it is just a little bit early to get the full picture of all the wonderful colors.

The Senior Center is doing quite well as far as attendance. We do want to invite any senior to come visit on any day. You don’t need a reservation, just a desire for a very good lunch with a lot of very good people. Lunch is served Monday thru Friday 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. If you cannot come to the center but would like a meal delivered, call 387-2100 for a delivery. Also, we have a handicap equipped van that can pick you up and return you back home free of charge. There are other services but there may be a small charge.

We are having a lot of fun and a good turnout with Bingo. It is regular now on the second and fourth Tuesday of each month, beginning about 12:45 p.m. or immediately following lunch. The next game is Tuesday, September 11. Come and win a prize. The charge is $3.00 for several games. We also have a domino game going every day. (This is a secret but I think these guys who play every day can be beaten.)

Begin planning now for the semi-annual fund-raiser on Friday, October 19th, featuring Danny Watters Bluegrass band. This is the second one for this year. There will be one in April, 2019. These fundraisers are very important to our center. Also, there will be Music Night on Friday, September 14th. We encourage anyone who likes country, gospel or bluegrass music to come and enjoy the music and hospitality. There is no charge, just a dish of something to share with others. Donations are accepted but not required. This starts at 5:30 p.m.

Each of you enjoy your week. See you next week.
