Vannoy was born October 15, 1920, near Lindsay, Oklahoma. She was the 4th child of seven children born to Benjamin Clayborn Williams and Clara Zenobia (Eastwood) Williams. In 1940, she married Dennis Hodges and together they raised three children, Clara, Larry and Gala. In 1967, Vannoy moved to Oklahoma City and worked 25 years at L & S Bearing Company. While living in OKC she met and later married Homer Cunningham. They were married for 20 years before he passed away in 1996. Soon after his passing she moved to Newcastle to be close to her family. While living in OKC, Vannoy became an active member of South Park Baptist Church. There she taught Sunday School and was a greeter. Even after she moved to Newcastle she continued attending church there. Throughout her life, Vannoy loved working with her hands and being in the outdoors.
