Ruby Louella McGrew Persall,
Ruby Louella McGrew Persall, age 87 of Newcastle, passed away Saturday, April 18, 2020. Ruby was born February 5, 1933 in Webbers Falls, OK, the older of two children born to Russell and Ruth (Dornan) McGrew. While Ruby was in grade school, the family moved to California and lived in the San Joaquin Valley where she graduated from Sanger High School with the Class of 1951. On April 22, 1952, Ruby married her best friend and life partner, Donald Preston Persall. Having known Don since the 5th grade, this truly was a match made in Heaven. With Don having chosen the Navy as his career, the couple was provided the “opportunity” to see and live in many towns in the great States of Washington, California and Minnesota. The couple, which had now become a family, to include children Laura, Larry, Karen and Donnie, settled in Oklahoma, with a move to Oklahoma City in 1969. In 1978, the family moved to Newcastle, Oklahoma. It was there they were able to live out their dream of owning an acreage, and establishing the family home. The acreage remains home to their son Donnie today. With the move to Oklahoma, Ruby found a career with Western Electric, which later became AT&T. Ruby retired in 1991. When not working, she enjoyed quilting and sewing. She especially enjoyed painting and she never missed an opportunity to curl up with a good book. Ruby cherished her family and was so very proud to become a grandmother, as she loved spoiling her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She was always looking for updates on their activities and followed them in all they did. She was a woman of great faith and a member of the First Baptist Church in Newcastle for over forty years. She was also a member of the Lovely Lilies Sunday school class where she had many cherished friendships.
All those that knew her will dearly miss her.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Don Persall, her son, Larry Persall, her brother, Donald McGrew, and her parents, Russell and Ruth McGrew.
Ruby is survived by her daughters, Laura Culberson of Oklahoma City, Karen Taylor and husband Tommy of Newcastle, her son, Donnie Persall of Newcastle, nine grandchildren, 19 great grandchildren, several nieces and nephews and a host of other family and friends.
Graveside services will be 4:00 P.M. Thursday, April 23rd, at Sunset Memorial Park Cemetery in Norman. Arrangements are by Wilson-Little Funeral Home in Newcastle. Send online condolences at wilsonlittle.com.
