Reginald Gerald Petty

Reginald Gerald Petty, 80, of Newcastle, passed away on May 26, 2023 in Oklahoma City. “Jerry” was born on November 16, 1942 to Reginald B. Petty (RB) and Virginia Petty.

Jerry grew up in the Bridge Creek area, but graduated with the Newcastle Racer Class of 1960. While in school he played basketball and baseball, and raced his hot rod every weekend only to blow the engine up each time. On September 3, 1960, Jerry married the love of his life, Mary Mason, and together they started a family.

Jerry drove a truck for “Scrivner” delivering groceries until they opened their grocery store in 1974. It began as Petty & Son and changed the name to Petty’s IGA, and eventually Petty’s Apple Market. He later purchased another grocery store in Chickasha in 1985. For 56 years the Petty family ran the stores with pride, providing quality service to Newcastle, Chickasha and the surrounding areas. After retiring, Jerry worked for Newcastle Public Schools as a maintenance supervisor.

Jerry served the community in many capacities. He was mayor of Newcastle, and was instrumental in establishing Newcastle’s first high school football facility. In 1987, Jerry was awarded the Award of Excellence for Community Service from IGA. Jerry was a big supporter of the 4-H and FFA programs.

He was a beloved husband, father, brother and PaPa who will be dearly missed.

Jerry was preceded in death by: his parents RB Petty and Virginia Carrel and his brother Danny Petty.

He is survived by: his wife Mary Petty of the home; daughter Lisa Petty of the home; Gerald “Little Jerry” Petty and wife Jennifer of Newcastle; his grandchildren Lawson Petty and wife Amber of Lindsay, Oklahoma, Kallie Petty-Gomez and husband Lawrence Gomez of Yukon, Oklahoma, Caulen Petty of Sapulpa, Oklahoma, Conner Petty and Gracie Petty of Blanchard, and Faith Allison of Newcastle.

He also leaves behind greatgrandchildren, Braxton Petty, Hallie Gomez, Madi Price, Carter Price, and numerous nieces and nephews.
