Obituaries Mary Jean Burnett

Mary Jean Burnett age 90 of Newcastle, went home to be with her lord on Thursday, March 21, 2019 in Stillwater, Oklahoma. She was born July 27, 1928 in Lamar, Arkansas. Mary was the middle child of three born to Dennis Rhynes and Velma Ann (Belling) Rhynes. Mary attended high school in Ada and graduated with the class of 1947. After high school she attended college at East Central Teachers College and later graduated with her degree in Education. On January 27, 1950, in Ada, OK, Mary married the love of her life, Charles E. Burnett. Together Mary and Charles raised three sons, Billy, Benny and Jerry. Mary’s first school and teaching job was teaching English at Vanoss High School. She later taught at Doyle High School before becoming a stay at home mom. After raising her boys and getting them into school she went back to teaching at Elmore City. Then in 1974 Mary and Charles moved to Newcastle and she taught high school English, Speech and Drama until she retired in 1990. Mary was a faithful Christian and member of the Newcastle First Baptist Church for over 40 years. She enjoyed singing in the Church Choir, performing in the Bell Choir and working with the hospitality committee. She also was a member of the Red Hat Society and the Eastern Star. Throughout her life, Mary and Charles enjoyed traveling and spending time at their cabin on Lake Eufaula. She also enjoyed cooking for her family and she was an avid O. U. Sooner sports fan. She will be remembered as a wonderful wife and mother, she was a special grandmother, sister and aunt.

She was preceded in death by: Parents, Dennis and Velma Rhynes. Husband, Charles Burnett in 1995, Brother, Kenneth Rhynes.

She is survived by: Three sons, Billy Burnett and wife Karen of Moore, Benny Burnett and wife Lisa of Prague, Jerry Burnett and wife Schelina of Perkins. Sister, Inez Agee and husband Calvin of Sulphur, Sister-in-law, Audrey Burnett of Arkansas. Six grandchildren, Brooke Burnett of Moore, Alisha Dupuis and husband Michael of South OKC, Conner Burnett of Stillwater, Cale Burnett of Stillwater, Brenna DiBianca and husband CPT Jon DiBianca of Ft. Irwin, CA. Braeden Burnett and wife Kathryn of Castlerock, CO. Six great grandchildren, Seth, Storie, Sloan Summer, Liam and Lucas. Also many nieces, nephews and other loving relatives and friends.

Funeral services were Tuesday, March 26, 2019 at the First Baptist Church in Newcastle. Interment followed at the Blanchard Cemetery. Arrangements are by Wilson-Little Funeral Home, 3132 Tri City Ave, Newcastle, OK. Send online condolences @wilsonlittle.com.
