Norma L. Wesnidge

Norma L. Wesnidge age 76, of Moore, formerly of Newcastle, OK passed away Saturday, November 16, 2019, after a long extended illness. She was born January 16, 1943, in Cordell, Oklahoma. Norma was the 2nd child of three born to Willard Grady Gilbert and Edna Lucille (Dunn). Norma grew up a country girl living near Colony, OK. At a young age she learned how to work hard, hoeing and pulling cotton. At the age of 16, she married the love of her life, Jackie Wesnidge. They were married on June 21, 1959, in Wichita Falls, Texas and together raised five children, Frank, Anita, Rita, Steve and David. Norma worked as a wife and homemaker until age 36. At that time she went back to school, got her GED and attended nursing school. In 1982, she graduated from Nursing School and became as Registered Nurse. She worked in the area of Oncology and became a nationally certified Oncology Nurse. She worked 5 years at Southwest Medical Center and over 10 years at the Midwest City Cancer Center. Norma loved caring for cancer patients and genuinely cared about them as they fought their battle with cancer. She was an excellent nurse who was highly skilled in Oncology Nursing. Norma was a devoted wife, a loving mother and grandmother. She loved her family and loved spending time with her children and especially her grandchildren. While her children were growing up she was the best mother that she could be. She was active in their school activities, their sports and in their 4H. After her grandchildren came along she has fond memories of playing Nintendo games with them. Throughout her life, she enjoyed flower gardening and raising huge vegetable gardens. She loved collecting butterflies and angels. She loved them because they represent beauty, peace and freedom of troubles. They also represent life and life ever after. Norma was a faithful Christian and a member of the Newcastle First Baptist Church for many years. She taught Sunday School, worked with the youth and was a sponsor at Falls Creek while her children were growing up in church. Norma was also involved in Al-Anon. She along with her sister-in-law, Clarabelle McBride cofounded the Newcastle chapter of Al-Anon. Norma made many dear friends in Al-Anon as well as in A.A. -She was preceded in death by Grandmother, Elizabeth Dunn; Mother, Edna Lucille Wells; Father, Willard Gilbert; Sister and brother-in-law, Edith and Jack Wells; Brother, Dewayne Gilbert; Daughter and son-in-law, Rita and Jimmy Wiley; Grandson, Tyler Wesnidge. She is survived by Husband, Jackie Wesnidge of the home in Moore; Four children, Frank Wesnidge and wife Tammy of Newcastle; Anita Pierce and husband Andrew of OKC; Steve Wesnidge and wife Patrice of Newcastle; David Wesnidge and fiancé Wendy of Norman. Seven grandchildren, Kyle Johnson and wife Lisa of Newalla; Steven Wesnidge and fiancé Lauren Sawyer of Moore; Britani Fore and husband Trey of OKC; Megan Justus of Ada; Josh Wesnidge and wife Barbara of Rockville, Maryland; Caitlyn Wright and husband Daniel of Norman, Emily Pierce of OKC. Six great grandchildren, Olivia Humphrey of Bethany; Riley Johnson of Newalla; Jax Wesnidge of Norman; Alivia and River Justus of Ada; Lincoln Fore of OKC. Also many nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of other relatives and friends. Funeral services will be 2:00PM Thursday, Nov. 21, 2019 at First Baptist Church in Newcastle. A visitation with family and friends will be on Wed. Nov. 20, 2019 from 6-8pm at Wilson-Little Funeral Home in Newcastle, 3132 Tri City Ave, 73065. Send online condolences @wilsonlittle.com.
