After high school, Ellis began working as a laborer building the ALCAN highway, and later worked for the North American Aviation Company in Southern California. Ellis answered the call to service for his country and joined the United States Navy. Ellis’s life would change forever when he met a young lady Irene Estelle Michener. It was love at first sight. He was man of great faith, and a charter member of the First Baptist Church in Newcastle. He was proud of his community and its history, and fondly recalled that his father was the 2nd child born in Norman, after the Land Rush of 1889.
