Harlus James Thompson

Harlus James Thompson, 95, of Newcastle Oklahoma passed away peacefully after a brief illness on September 9, 2020. He was one of five children born to A.J. “Doc” Thompson and Della Mae (Perkins) Thompson on March 15, 1925 in Pocasset Oklahoma. He grew up in Bridge Creek Oklahoma on a farm and attended Bridge Creek Schools. He married the love of his life Shirley Marie Franklin on August 31, 1951 in Tuttle, Oklahoma. To this union was born two sons, Gary James and Jeffrie Alan. Harlus and Shirley made their home in Newcastle, Oklahoma in 1959. He worked at Wilson’s Food as a shipping clerk until retirement in 1981. He loved to do wood working, building cabinets and doing remolding projects. In his later years he enjoyed making trinkets such as motorcycles, cars and trucks, and guitars out of wood. Harlus enjoyed being outdoors and was an avid gardener, sharing his garden with family and friends. When the boys and later his grandchildren were growing up, he and Shirley enjoyed spending time with them at the lake. He was a faithful Christian and an active member of Snow Hill Baptist Church.

He is preceded in death by his wife Shirley, son J. Alan, parents “Doc” and Della Mae Thompson, three brothers Milas, Ira and Thurman Thompson.

He is survived by his son Gary and wife Carol of Newcastle, four grandchildren, Chris Thompson and Brent Thompson of Newcastle, Sara Thompson of Norman and Chase and wife Tayler Thompson of Bridge Creek, four great grandchildren, Callie, Landyn, Barrin and Jaxon. One sister, Evelyn Franklin of Kansas. Also many nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of other relatives and friends.
