Edward Pitman Cravens, Jr.

Edward Pitman Cravens, Jr. was born February 8, 1948 to Vinnie Ream Stout Cravens and Edward “Pat” Cravens in Enid, Oklahoma. He passed away on December 29, 2020 in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma after a several month-long struggle with leukemia.

Ed graduated from Enid High School in 1966 and Phillips University, class of 1970, and received a Master’s degree in Education from Oklahoma State University in 1972. Ed taught school at Moore High School, Oklahoma City Community College, Oklahoma State University Oklahoma City campus, and Newcastle Public Schools until he retired from teaching. He then became the Emergency Manager for McClain County until his final retirement.

His devotion to teaching, sciences, animals and the environment was evident in the lives he touched and the programs he developed, including the McART (McClain County Animal Rescue Team) and the founding of the Phillips University Legacy Foundation.

Edward moved to Prague, Oklahoma to enjoy his retirement where he enjoyed organic gardening, wood working, and watching wildlife with Sherri “Angel” Costa.

Edward was survived by his sisters Patsy Cravens Warren, and Peggy Cravens Lippitt, daughter Janetta Cravens and husband Mark Closson, son Matthew Cravens and spouse Cynthia Cravens, and grandchildren Madeline Cravens Allred, Tearany Novak, Brayden Miller, Peyton Miller, and Saylor Cravens, as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

The family is asking that in lieu of flowers that friends and family show their support by donating blood or contributing to Phillips University Legacy Foundation.
