Cheryl Metheny

Cheryl Metheny, age 68 of Lexington, passed away Wednesday, October 9, 2019. Cheryl Lee Adkison was born October 20, 1950 in Tulsa, OK, the older of 2 children born to John Adkison and Joan Kay (Reynolds) Adkison. She was raised in Tulsa and attended school there, graduating in 1968. By chance, one day at the boarding stables, she met a young man named Skip Metheny. They were both horse lovers and shared many other interest and quickly became friends. Their friendship evolved and on October 27, 1968, they were married in Tulsa. Cheryl then attended Central State College in Edmond where she earned her Bachelors of Education Degree. She began teaching in Oklahoma City and later moved to Newcastle where she retired after 37 years of teaching. Cheryl loved her students. She was passionate and nurturing and this served her well teaching Elementary students. She retired from Newcastle Public Schools after 37 years of teaching. In the spring of 1992, Skip and Cheryl purchased an acreage east of Lexington, and have called it home since. Cheryl loved her life on the farm. She was an animal lover and rescued many cats and dogs, and there was plenty of room to raise her donkeys, her absolute favorites, her mules and her horses. This was her happy place, as she loved nature, and she enjoyed sharing this with her family and close friends. She was a loving and devoted wife and mother, grandmother and friend. She will be dearly missed!

She was preceded in death by:

Granddaughter, Jordyn Metheny Her father, John Adkison and Brother, Mike Adkison.

Cheryl is survived by:

Her husband, Skip of the home; Daughter, Amy McKelvey and husband Darrin of Midwest City; Son, Kevin Metheny and wife Molly of Norman and Step-Son, Dee Metheny and wife Dana of Guthrie; Her mother, Joan Kennedy of Norman; 6 grandchildren, Dylan, Emerie, Malia, Abbee, Jaxon and Rhylee and A host of other family and friends. Private Memorial Services are scheduled for a later day. Services by Wilson-Little Funeral Home of Purcell. In lieu of flowers, memorials in Cheryl’s name may be made to the Scholarship Fund % NASMDA, Denny Myers 1260, Beaver Dam RD, Madison, GA, 30650.
