Guy Eugene Cannon

Guy Eugene Cannon
He was raised in Georgetown, Louisiana, and attended school there, graduating from Georgetown High School in 1967. He then attended Northwestern State University in Natchitoches, Louisiana, before answering the call in service to his country. Guy joined the United States Air Force on October 1, 1968, and upon graduation from Technical School, was sent to Vance AFB in Enid, where he worked as a Life Support/Survival Instructor and later supervisor.
Just prior to his discharge, Guy was assigned to Forbes AFB in Topeka, Kansas. By 1973, he had returned to Vance AFB where he began his Civil Service career as a warehouse worker and stocker for the Base Commissary. He continued his service in the Oklahoma Air National Guard, and became a supervisor of Air Crew Life Support in 1978.
This same year, on July 28, he married the love of his life, Diana Lynn Housh in Newcastle, and they made their home there. In 1984, Guy was promoted to SMSgt. He retired after more than 34 total years of dedicated service.
When he wasn’t working, Guy liked to play tennis, loved camping and always enjoyed a day of fishing. He was an avid sports fan, and particularly his LSU Tigers. He spent many a night coaching his boys in baseball while they were growing up.
Guy was a man of great faith and a longtime and faithful member of the Newcastle First Baptist Church. He served as Usher Chairman for many years, and taught Sunday School. He cherished Diana, and his children, and was never happier than the day he became Pa. He loved spoiling his grandson, Barrett, raising calves, and supporting the Veteran’s Corner by helping other veterans. He will be dearly missed!
