Donnie Ray Wynne
Donnie Ray Wynne
Donnie was raised in Newcastle and attended school for 12 years with perfect attendance, graduating with the Racer’s Class of 1955. He learned the value of hard work at an early age, helping in the day-to-day operations of the family farm. He attended the University of Oklahoma just long enough to earn the “Best All-Around Cowboy Award” at their second annual Frontier Days Rodeo before transferring to Cameron University in Lawton, Oklahoma.
He married his best friend and life partner, Darline Daniels, on December 20, 1958, in Fox, Oklahoma. They made their home in Oklahoma City, for a short time before settling back in Newcastle. Together they raised a son, Johnny and a daughter, Darla.
Donnie worked for the FAA for 15 years. He then purchased the local feed store, and for the next 47 years owned and operated Wynne’s Feed & Seed in Newcastle alongside his son.
Donnie was a true Cowboy from riding the pasture to gather his father’s cows, to rodeoing in his younger years. Later in life he developed a passion for team penning in which he competed professionally for a number of years. Along with numerous national titles he won the AQHA World Championship Team Penning event at the age of 60, and was inducted into the United States Team Penning Association Hall of Fame in 2018.
He believed that any day fishing was a good day, and looked forward to visiting with his customers and friends, and the relationships built throughout the years.
Donnie was a man of great faith and longtime member of Newcastle First Baptist Church. He cherished his family and especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He will be dearly missed!
