One man’s passion may help save others as severe weather season approaches in Newcastle.
Kim Banfield was announced as the 2021-22 Newcastle Public Schools’ Teacher of the Year at the March Newcastle Board of Education meeting last week. Banfield is a sixth through 12th grade special education teacher.
Newcastle High School student Frank Nikodym was inducted into the McClain County Hall of Fame. He won a State 4-H record book in Geology along with a $3,000 scholarship. He spoke to volunteers in the Congo about water conservation, was selected to travel to Washington DC for Citizenship Washington Focus, was selected to meet with officials in April at the State Capitol, and he worked with The Smithsonian during the 4-H National Conference regarding The Smithsonian’s Impact in School. An architectural firm and construction management company have been selected by the Newcastle School Board to aid in planning, putting forth a bond issue to the school district voters, and then constructing projects if the bond issue is approved.
Newly announced coaches for Newcastle Pom are Kelsey Britton and Rylea Cole. They are pictured with Superintendent Dr. Melonie Hau. Pom tryout clinics are from 4:30-6 p.m. March 29 and March 31 at the NHS gymnasium, and NHS Pom tryouts are at 6:30 p.m. Friday, April 1 in the NHS gymnasium.
