Mayor Karl Nail, along with the unanimous support of the city council in its March meeting, proclaimed Newcastle to be a Purple Heart City. This designation reflects the spirit of honor and respect that Newcastle and its residents have for veterans who were injured or killed in service to the nation, according to City spokesperson Scott Hannan.
