TOM, RETA GILLIAM CELEBRATE MILESTONE
Tom and Reta (Gallaway) Gilliam were married May 27, 1955 in Cyril, Oklahoma. Tom and Reta met in 8th grade and became High School sweethearts, graduating from Cyril High School, “home of the Pirates” in 1954. Tom graduated from Oklahoma State University in 1958 and earned a degree in Animal Science and Reta received her Cosmetology license the following year. After a brief move to Illinois, they returned to Oklahoma where they raised their three children, Jeff Gilliam (wife Laura), Sheila Ridley and Rhonda Sucharda. They made their home in Newcastle in 1974 and their three children graduated from Newcastle High School. They have one granddaughter, Tommie Sucharda who is a 2020 graduate of Newcastle, and their youngest grandson, Chase Sucharda is a Sophomore at Newcastle. Their oldest grandson, Cort Ridley currently makes his home in Columbia with wife Bruchelle and daughter, Maya.
Tom continues to be an active owner of Stockman Livestock Order Buying, co-owner of Apache Auction Market, co-owner of Stockman Oklahoma Livestock Commission Company and owner locally of Brush Creek BBQ & Catfish. Tom received the honor of Outstanding Animal Science Graduate at Oklahoma State University in 1994. Tom has been working at the Oklahoma City Stockyards for 60 years. As a stay at home Mom, Reta spent many years volunteering at school, church, and attending numerous 4-H and FFA livestock shows. She also worked alongside Tom at the Apache Auction Market for many years and was employed at Stein Mart working in the Boutique department for ten years. Tom and Reta are both devoted to the First Baptist Church of Newcastle and the Tri-City Cowboy Country Church. In their spare time, Tom and Reta enjoy supporting their grandkids in their activities which includes barrel racing and Newcastle High School basketball and are avid Oklahoma City Thunder and Oklahoma State Cowboy fans.
