HUNDREDS ATTEND PARADE CELEBRATING THE CLASS OF 2020
Due to the coronavirus, school districts across the state were forced to close and adapt to distance-learning. With the pandemic still affecting the nation, Newcastle had to find a new way to honor the Class of 2020. On Thursday, May 14 a parade on Main Street did just that. The town of Newcastle showed up in full force to support the grads. “I am so proud of our 2020 graduates, their families, our high school staff, and our entire community for supporting the unconventional graduation celebration,” Superintendent Melonie Hau said. “Students and staff worked very hard to make it a special night in spite of all the disruption to our normal graduation. We have heard only positive comments about how fun and touching it was to see everyone come together again. Graduates were able to show their individual personalities as the entire town cheered them on. The official graduation ceremony was postponed and will now take place Thursday, July 30. As always The Newcastle Pacer will publish a special Graduation Keepsake Edition to honor the graduates. This issue will publish Thursday, August 6, and will include a barrage of photos of all the events. “I hope the Class of 2020 will remember it always as an amazing night,” said Hau.
