Senior moments from the Newcastle Senior Center

Hello Newcastle Seniors! This has been an unusual week to say the least. Although understandable, I never thought I would see the day where multiple church doors were closed. It is by far the best way to stop this virus. I hope everyone is staying pretty close to home and away from crowds. I know it must be hard when you live alone. We WILL get through this, and be stronger for knowing we can survive. Don't be afraid and remember, God of the mountain is still God of the valley. He said He would always be with us and I believe that He will.

There are so many things that I, personally, can do during this time of staying at home (I wont use the word quarantine because it has not ben mandated in this area yet.) My closets are screaming at me to work on them during this time.

Since we can't run down for a quick meal, a lot more cooking is going on, which means more to clean. My 10 year-old granddaughter is coming to visit later today or tomorrow. I may have the joy of having her for a week or more. With the young mothers working gives us great opportunity to spend time with the children. We can keep them safe. There are many positive things we can do. There is always someone worse off than we are. Maybe they need help.

I have done some checking about the time limit on the virus remaining on things such as newspapers, mail, money, grocery bags and wrappings, shopping carts as well as any other thing handled by people. The time can be several hours to a week. So my reccommmendation is to wear gloves when you can.

Everyone already knows that tornado season is upon us, but please take note that the city has announced that the public shelter WILL NOT be open. Now is the time to find someone with a storm shelter, and are willing to share. Find that friend now, before it’s too late.

The cooks at the Center are preparing lunches that can be delivered. Call 387-2100 before 9 a.m. if you would like a lunch delivered.

The fundraiser with Danny Watters Bluegrass band in April is postponed for the time being. He said they will do it later in the Summer if this virus is controlled by then. For almost certainty, we will be able to do something in October. Danny has had to postpone all concerts and fundraisers for the time being.

Stay home and stay safe. See you next week.

"This looks like a good day to have a good day."
