Senior moments from the Newcastle Senior Center
Hello Newcastle Seniors! Our world is going to be beautiful again as soon as the rest of the trees bloom. The blooming trees are everywhere and so beautiful. Most of the blooms are white Bradford Pears, but the rest are close behind. I write my column on Sundays, and by the time you are reading this, I am hoping that all the trees will be in full bloom. Isn’t Spring beautiful? It is definitely a sign of re-birth. God thought of every little detail. It makes me so proud to see everything waking up and sparkling and growing. It’s almost time to begin planting those gardens.
There are two very important fundraisers on the horizon that take place in April. The Citywide garage sale is scheduled for the last week end in April. Starting Thursday, April 23rd and going through Saturday, April 25th. If anyone has items to donate you can bring them to the Senior Center anytime Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. until 1 p..m. If you are unable to bring them during that time, call the center at 405-387-2100 to make arrangements. We will work with you. We did the garage sale last year during the City-wide weekend and it was a great success. So we are doing the same this year with confidence of another successful year. Our donations last year were really great and helped us tremendously.
It is time again for Danny Watters to strike up the band and entertain us with another concert and fundraiser. Friday, April 17 is the date to remember for that one. There will also be other bands, I just don’t know for sure who they are yet, but based on years past, they will be good. Hopefully I can present the names next week.
Please put these dates on your calendar and help us support this wonderful senior center. This center is a vital part of this town and community. Our seniors depend on it! We have a large number who come every day. We have a Delta bus available to pick up those who are unable to come on their own. We will bring you here and return you home free of charge. We will also throw in a big smile and all the help you need. You may have to listen to a story or joke from the driver, Bev. She is very entertaining and very helpful.
The meals here are healthy and well prepared. And GOOD. You will be served meat, bread, vegetables, fruit, salad bar, home made daily dessert with lots of coffee and tea and other beverages upon request. We love to see new people and invite them to become regular. Give it a try. I think you will love it.
Have a wonderful week. See you then.
