Senior moments from the Newcastle Senior Center
Hello Newcastle Seniors! Happy Thursday morning, I hope it is a good day for all of you.
Things are going well at the center. Attendance is up and the food and fellowship is good. Our cooks are just the best! Esme and Jessica, we love you. Esme took a few days and went to South Africa to spend some time with her mother and other family members. I know she enjoyed that. You were certainly missed Esme but we were glad you could make that very important journey and have some time with your family there, especially your Mother. Mothers are so very important.
Thursday, Feb. 6 is our next scheduled board meeting. This particular meeting important because we will be adding four new board members on that day. Every board meeting is important but the one in February is always when we make changes for the next year. Four board members rotate off each year and four members remain. If there is not a large enough number of applicants for board membership, those rotating off can stay if they want to. And many do. Although, right now we have several applicants and that is wonderful. We are so glad to see so much interest in the center and how it operates. If you have never visited our center, please come and visit us sometime soon.
Lunch is served Monday thru Friday, 11:30 to 12:30. We can offer you a generous helping of some type of meat, vegetables, fruit, salad bar, delicious desserts and a mountain of coffee and tea. All combined, it makes for a really healthy and tasty meal. Just come and see.
Barbara Lee has been a member here, as well as a member of the board, for several years. She is our Senior of the Month for February. Congratulations Barbara. We now offer prizes for that honor and you get to line up first all month.
Great news! There is no longer a fee to play Bingo! Thanks to Robin Fielder from the chamber for that. She has found local businesses to sponsor the games. From now on, each month will be sponsored by a local business. They are providing prizes as well as manning the microphone to call the numbers. Pioneer Telephone was the inaugural sponsor last week. They brought along some humor and laughs in addition to fabulous prizes. Every one had a good time.
Our next Bingo games will be Thursdaym Feb. 13
Just a reminder that the center is planning to participate in the city-wide garage sale at the end of April. All proceeds from sales benefit the center. We are accepting donations, with the exception of clothing at the center. We simply do not have the space to store them. However, the Hope Center is always happy to receive shoes, clothes, jewelry, books, etc. They are located just south of Highway 130 on Highway 62.
The Delta van will not be available on Presidents Day, Monday, Feb. 17. We hope this will not cause a hardship on anyone.
