Senior moments from the Newcastle Senior Center
DOROTHY’S DABLINGS/ Senior Citizen happenings
Hello Newcastle Seniors! Another week has passed and October is about gone and that makes me sad. I think October is so beautiful. I guess I would have to say it is my favorite month. But then December comes and there is Christmas so that's a favorite also. And what about the first flowers and birds in April? It's hard to pick a favorite. God did such a good job of giving us variety. Oh yes, November is coming along with Thanksgiving and we need to thank Him for all the blessings of November. So I don't have a favorite after all. I'll just be grateful we have it all. If one of you have a favorite, and why it is your favorite, let me know and I will mention it.
We have a number of people and businesses to thank for the success of our fundraiser. First of all, let me say thank you to all the people who regularly attend this senior center and for all they do to make it work. It takes people working together to make anything successful and that is what we have here. So this is an "attaboy" or "attagirl" for all of you.
We also have some faithful donors who support us every time: Sooner State Bank, Pawn Sharks, Pioneer Telephone, Dave’s Diner, Dakota's and Truman Young who donated several free lunches for door prizes and The Weighted Fork in Moore who donated some free lunches, also for door prizes. We thank each of you for your continued support. We are already looking forward, and planning for, the next one in April.
Rosie James had some visitors here with her on October 22, Kate and Bob Stancliff, all the way from Caldwell, Idaho. Welcome Kate and Bob. It was so good to meet you.
We have a lot of fun things going on. Remember BINGO is on the second and fourth Tuesday and BUNCO is the first Thursday. These are scheduled for 1:45 p.m. but can vary a little, depending on how long lunch takes. They are $3.00 each and you might even win a prize. Come in and see for yourself. Meet some new people. Dominoes are played every day and there is no charge nor start and stop time.
The rental for the center is filling up fast for the holidays. Get your name on a date if you would like some extra room for an event. The cost is $100 per day with a refund of $25 if the center is clean when your event is over. The center will be decorated for each holiday, especially Christmas. We will decorate a beautiful tree just for YOU.
We have two excellent cooks, Esme and Jessica, who really know how to make a meal attractive and wholesome. Their salad bar compares with large restaurants, and it is all made right here. A lovely dessert every day is always a favorite. Come in and try it, it’s the best deal in town.
One day last week we had 75 in attendance. Wow! And there were about 25 lunches delivered that day! Call 387-2100 if you would like a meal delivered, or if you need a ride to the center. We have a handicap-equipped van that can pick you up and return you home free of charge. Our driver is Bev and she is a very good driver, she is real nice too. (She told me to say that.)
Have a real good week.
