Head softball coach and former baseball coach Mike Crossley was recognized during the Newcastle Board of Education meeting on October 10 for his 1,100 wins as a Newcastle coach. He is pictured with Athletic Director Brent Hodges.

Bikes to aid in EMS response
Newcastle Rotary Club International recently presented bicycles to the McClain-Grady County Emergency Medical Services. They will be able to use these during special events, such as sporting activities or the 4th of July celebration, where they aren’t able to get an ambulance through the crowd quickly. The money was raised through our two trivia nights held at Libby’s along with the donations from various sponsors. Pictured making the presentation are members of the Newcastle Rotary along with EMS officials.

McClain-Grady EMS makes 49 sick calls, 26 auto accidents in September
McClain-Grady County Emergency Medical Services made 228 total calls for the month of September. They had 142 billed calls and 86 non-transport calls at an average response time of 7.04 minutes.

Finishing up on interim studies
Between meetings and events in the district and work at the Capitol, I’ve had a busy schedule in recent weeks. We’re currently focused on getting through the dozens of interim studies that were approved this year. These provide us more time to fully research important, complicated issues than we have during the four-month regular legislative session.

Making mental health a national priority
In recent years, our nation has experienced an alarming spike in poor mental health that was exacerbated by COVID-19 pandemic shutdowns. Sadly, too many Americans have faced symptoms of anxiety, depression or more. This Suicide Prevention Awareness Month is a critical reminder to take mental health seriously and promote a healthy and mindful lifestyle.

The Junior class is planning a haunted house at the Newcastle Fair Barn this year. They are starting at 7 p.m. October 28-31, and there’s a $10 entry fee.

True SkyCredit Union cuts ribbon at Newcastl
Newcastle, Blanchard and Tuttle Chambers of Commerce members joined corporate officers on TrueSky Credit Union, including Chairman of the Board Terry Davidson, and Branch Manager Molly Crosswhite on Friday. Crosswhite is a 2016 Newcastle High School graduate. A grand opening celebration for TrueSky was held Saturday.
