City approves street projects starting with N.W. 16th, N.W. 24th
Several Newcastle street projects were approved by the City Council during their June meeting. To be scheduled relatively quick, according to City Manager Kevin Self, are chip and seal projects on N.W. 16th Street and N.W. 24th Street.

Students visit Washington, D.C.
Six high school students from Oklahoma Virtual Charter Academy (OVCA) spent four days in Washington, D.C., as part of a school trip where they met with Rep. Stephanie Bice (R-Oklahoma City). Pictured, from left, are: Ashton Mussman from Broken Arrow, Annabeth Wiedel from Meeker, William Souder from El Reno, Rep. Bice, McKinlie Stuard from Newcastle, Alexandria Ward from Poteau, Danelle O’Kelley from Holdenville, and history teacher Jim Wille. The students also visited iconic sites, including the White House, the 9/11 and Washington Memorials, and experienced a performance at the Kennedy Center.

It is time to get out the canning supplies and take inventory of your items. If you are using a pressure canner it is important to check your gasket in the canner, make sure you check for cracks and that it fits properly. When replacing, always use the model number for your pressure canner.

Raising awareness for Alzheimer’s
June is Alzheimer’s Awareness Month, a time to encourage national conversation about brain health and raise awareness to improve health care outcomes. Over six million Americans are currently living with Alzheimer’s disease and other forms of dementia. Of that number, 67,000 are Oklahomans. Anyone who is impacted by Alzheimer’s understands the gravity of this disease and the hardship endured by both the individual and the loved ones surrounding them.

Private school vouchers cost taxpayers $132.9 million in 2024
This week, the Board of Equalization certified a $190 million decrease in state revenue for 2024. House Democratic Leader Cyndi Munson, D-Oklahoma City said the decrease in state funding is largely due to the Republican supermajority’s decision to use taxpayer dollars to fund private schools.

Reigning in regulation
While back in the Fourth District of Oklahoma, one of the top concerns I hear from constituents is the crushing weight of increasing overreach, overregulation and red tape from the federal government, which does not allow families and small businesses to flourish and succeed. Unfortunately, the Biden Administration has not taken note, and while forcing its progressive policies on the nation, President Joe Biden and Democrats have instead abused regulatory power and have produced egregious regulation after regulation.
