Marijuana taxes go back to city coffers
The November state tax collections reflecting October sales for Medical Marijuana in Newcastle showed a total return of $30,868.49.

Honored at NPS Board meeting
The Newcastle Early Childhood Center, elementary school and high school received Certified Safe and Healthy Schools of Oklahoma program awards. Accepting on behalf of their schools are Newcastle Elementary School Principal Ryan McLaughlin, Newcastle Early Childhood Center Principal Jill Rosenbloom, and Newcastle High School Principal Adam Hull.

Bill request deadline has passed
We have less than two months until the 2024 legislative session gets underway. Friday, December 8 was the deadline to have our bill requests in, which are the issues we’d like to have researched — not all of these will end up getting filed due to duplication or various other reasons but it’s an important starting point. We have until mid-January to decide if we want to file them.

City, ODOT talk I-35, SH-9 Interchange
Employees from Sherwood Construction, The City of Newcastle, Riverwind Casino, and the Oklahoma Department of Transportation discuss upcoming improvements to the interchanges at U.S. Interstate 35 and State Highway 9. They also discussed improvements being planned in Tri City.

Getting serious about securing the borders
Throughout the last several weeks, both chambers of Congress have continued to work toward an agreement to assist Israel, Ukraine and American forces and installations in the Western Pacific, as well as provide more security for our Southern border. While supporting our allies and partners in thwarting aggression is very important to the United States’ own safety, we would be remiss not to also secure our own southern border and address the national security threats this crisis presents.

Racers lose to Blanchard, Anadarko; preparing for PC West tourney
It was a tough week for Newcastle boys basketball as the Racers lost to both Blanchard and Anadarko. The Blanchard loss, on December 12, was only by one point.
