Newcastle High School Aviation student Peyton Holmes earned his Private Pilot License (PPL) on Tuesday, October 20. He is now legally allowed to pilot aircraft for personal, recreational, or non-commercial purposes.
The senior successfully completed both an oral exam and a checkride, which is a final evaluation for a student and must be passed in order to earn a pilot certificate.
Peyton is the first student from the NHS Aviation program to earn his PPL, making this a significant milestone for both him and the program. He is also the youngest graduate of Chickasha Wings to earn his PPL.
Peyton has been part of Racer Aviation from the beginning of the program. He is a four-year student and has been involved since its first year.
School officials said Peyton has put in a tremendous amount of work to reach this point, and his accomplishment is a strong example of what the school hoped the aviation pathway could provide for students when they started building it.
