Newcastle Hay and Equipment does not exist, there’s no tractor
An online scam for a fake business going by Newcastle Hay and Equipment has hit the area.
The scam involves advertising for a large tractor priced at a much lower than retail price.
The scam was reported by City Council member Mike Fullerton. He said a friend called him and said he was checking into the advertised tractor and was at an address in Newcastle.
He told Fullerton he called the number on the advertisement, and when he told him he was sitting at the address he was given, the man hung on him. He said he couldn’t call him back.
Apparently, within the last several weeks the same photo has been used in multiple ads with generic made up business names, and blasted into regional farm equipment classifieds.
Fullerton said this is a big scam. The address given to the man was not a good address, and the website and the company mentioned on the ad does not exist. The tractor photo used in the advertisement is considered fraudulent, and the scammers do not own or possess this machine.
The Newcastle Pacer did a reverse lookup online to see what would come up, and the photo was described as being used in several scam advertisements.
For anyone calling about this scam equipment, please know that any request for a down payment, wire transfer holding fee, or freight deposit to secure it will result in immediate financial loss.
