N.W. 16th Street, Country Club could get new pavement if road funds come through

Newcastle City Council is looking to take part in a state road fund to help repair streets damaged by heavy oil and gas industry traffic.

The program, Municipal Road Drilling Activity Fund (MRDAF), provides $5 million annually in state funds through the Oklahoma Department of Transportation to help small municipalities repair road damage caused by the heavy traffic. The funds come from re-appropriated revenue collected from the state’s red-dyed off-road diesel sales tax.

If a municipality is awarded a grant, the state covers 75% of eligible project costs, and the municipality must pay the remaining 25%.

Newcastle council members approved a resolution at their last city meeting adopting their participation in the MRDAF. They are seeking funds for the following projects:

• Country Club Road, between N.W. 16th Street and State Highway 130

• N.W. 16th Street, between United States Highway 62 (Main Street) and SH-130

•S.W. 16th Street, between the Chickasaw Nation property line and Rockwell Avenue.
