Newcastle plays Putnam City North on Friday night at home
Blanchard turnovers, and Newcastle’s control of the line, as well as big runs by Ben Rogers and the resulting eight Racer touchdowns made for a shutout of the Lions last Friday night.
Newcastle (1-2) took its first win of the 2026 football season by a score of 56-0 during the visit to Blanchard (0-2).
Racer Head Coach Bo Bradshaw said the Newcastle fans made a huge impact on the game.
“They were loud and involved well into the fourth quarter,” Bradshaw said. “Our student section might have been the best it has been in five years or more. They were there early and on their feet almost all game.”
Five of the touchdowns came from the running of Ben Rogers. He carried 10 times for 150 yards. Bradshaw said five touchdowns in one game is an incredible accomplishment.
Also on offense, Graham White had a big catch for a touchdown.
The Racers had two defensive plays for interceptions, one by Daijzon Wilson and the other by Elyjiah Beamus. They had two turnovers on kickoffs when Racer Chris Perez kicked and the Blanchard returner couldn’t handle the ball. On another kickoff, Brody Foster forced a fumble. Recoveries were made by Hampton Hague and Tamir Tease.
The Racers scored one touchdown in the first quarter, three in the second and three in the third, and then one more in the fourth.
“Our offensive line was dominant throughout the game,’ Bradshaw said. “We ran for 222 yards total.”
Player of the Week honor went to Rogers. Offensive Player of the Week went to Cody Nix. Defensive Player of the Week went to Foster, while Special Teams Player of the Week went to Jayson Simson.
Arrian “AJ” Parker-Riley earned the Hammer Award, and Darian Wade grabbed the Knockdown Award.
Nicholas Jeffries was the Practice Player of the Week, and Zayden Wood was the Lifter of the Week.
Bradshaw said, “We have built some confidence after the win at Blanchard. We are excited to have a chance to get our first home win of the season this week.”
Newcastle will host the Putnam City North Panthers (03) at 7 p.m. this Friday.
Bradshaw said, “They have a really good wide receiver (#1) who we will need to account for defensively. Their kids play with great effort and have big play potential. We will need to play sound, fundamental, and aggressive football.”
