Newcastle Rotary Club International purchased two new couches for Newcastle Middle School so the school could retire the sick bench that had been a staple at NMS for many years.

The concrete bench, known as the sick bench, was all the students had while waiting for their ride home.

Newcastle Middle School Parents Teachers Organization reached out to the community requesting a donation for a more comfortable resting place for the students. Newcastle Rotary was able to fulfill the need with the help and coordination of Cathryn Longenbaugh, NMS secretary.

Plans at the school are for the nostalgic sick bench to remain in the front hall of the middle school, along with the new couches.
