Pioneer Library System was recognized on the international stage at the 2026 International Federation of Library Associations and Institutions (IFLA) World Library and Information Congress in Busan, South Korea.
PLS’s award-winning marketing campaign, Collaborating to Spark a Change, was selected as one of the top 10 submissions worldwide in the 2026 IFLA PressReader International Marketing Award, which honors innovative library marketing initiatives that demonstrate creativity, impact and community engagement.
“If you are receiving this award, you are a top 10 marketer and showcased one of the top 10 campaigns across the world,” said Leslie Weir, IFLA president. “You are all winners.”
The Collaborating to Spark a Change campaign was developed around astronaut and author Leland Melvin’s 2025 visit to Oklahoma. The community- centered campaign highlighted the power of partnerships, literacy, and inspiration while engaging residents throughout Pioneer Library System’s service area.
Kelly Sitzman, director of communications and employee development for Pioneer Library System, represented PLS at the IFLA World Library and Information Congress. Sitzman presented at the conference alongside other finalists from Asia, South America, and Australia.
“This campaign proves that public libraries are integral to economic and workforce development,” Sitzman said. “PLS is incredible, and we’re proud to showcase the innovative work happening in our communities on a global stage. Being recognized among outstanding libraries from around the world reflects the creativity, collaboration, and dedication of the PLS Marketing and Communications team.”
Collaborating to Spark a Change was the only North American campaign selected as a finalist for this award. The campaign was previously recognized by the Urban Libraries Council as the Top Innovator for Workforce and Economic Development.
Held August 10-13 in Busan, South Korea, the World Library and Information Congress welcomed more than 3,000 delegates from more than 100 countries and serves as the premier international conference for the library and information services sector.
The 2026 conference theme, Libraries Powering Transformation, focused on the evolving role of libraries in advancing digital literacy, equitable access to information and community development. The event provides opportunities for library professionals worldwide to exchange ideas, and explore emerging trends.
