The Democrat candidate for governor of the State of Oklahoma Cyndi Munson will be visiting Newcastle for a Meet and Greet from 2:30 -3:30 p.m. on Sunday, September 6.
The event is at the Newcastle Public Library Community Room, 705 N.W. 10th Street.
Munson is on the ballot for the November 3 election, when she will face Republican candidate Mike Mazzei, a former member of the Oklahoma Senate and CEO of Trinity Strategic Wealth.
Munson (D-Oklahoma City) has been the representative for House District 85 and has served as the House Minority Leader. Originally from Lawton, Munson’s website says she developed her passion for public service at an early age. Her father’s mili- tary service taught her the importance of giving back to the community around her.
A first-generation college student, Munson graduated from the University of Central Oklahoma with a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science and was awarded the Presidential Gold Medal for Leadership and Public Service. She used a semester of her undergraduate career to study non-profit and voluntary services at Georgetown University and then attended the University of Nebraska – Lincoln, where she earned a Master of Science in Leadership Education.
She has worked in non-profit business, she’s a leadership graduate, both as a youth and as an adult, and has been in the Oklahoma Legislature since 2015. She has been in the House Democratic Leadership since 2021, and was reelected as House Democratic Leader for the 60th Legislature.
She primarily focuses on issues pertaining to children, women, working families, public education, criminal and juvenile justice reform, election and voter reform, and Alzheimer’s.
