Pioneer Library System (PLS) invites residents to discover everything the library system has to offer during National Library Card Sign-Up Month this September. To celebrate, PLS will offer limitededition library cards featuring artwork inspired by musician and author Laufey.
Customers interested in obtaining a limited-edition Laufey library card are encouraged to visit their local PLS branch beginning in September while supplies last.
A library card opens the door to books, eBooks, audiobooks, streaming content, online learning tools, cultural passes, career resources, access to technology, research resources, programs, and more. Throughout September, PLS encourages new and existing customers alike to explore the many opportunities available through their local library.
“Our library card is much more than a way to check out materials,” said Kelly Sitzman, PLS’s Director of Communications and Employee Development. “It serves as a connection point for lifelong learning, creativity, technology, workforce development, and community engagement. Library Card Sign-Up Month is a wonderful opportunity to remind our residents of the value and access that a library card provides.”
New customers can request a Laufey card when signing up for a library account. Existing cardholders may also exchange their current card for the commemorative design. While the new card will have a different barcode, library staff can transfer account history and information to ensure a seamless transition.
Laufey, an Icelandic-Chinese composer, singer, producer, author and founder of the Laufey Book Club, is serving as the American Library Association’s honorary chair for Library Card Sign-Up Month 2026. Known for encouraging creativity, reading, and lifelong learning, Laufey joins libraries nationwide in promoting the benefits of library access and lifelong discovery.
Since 1987, libraries across the United States have celebrated Library Card Sign-Up Month each September, encouraging individuals of all ages to sign up for a library card and explore the resources available through their local library.
