A State of the State luncheon is planned by the Newcastle Chamber of Commerce for 11:45 a.m. to 1 p.m. Tuesday, August 25 at the Newcastle Pioneer Library community room.
Guest speakers are State Senator Kendal Sacchieri (SD43) and State Representative Jonathan Wilk (HD20).
Sacchieri is preparing for her third year in her first term as State Senator for District 43, which includes Newcastle, as well as parts of Cleveland, Garvin, Grady, McClain and Stephens Counties. She is a member of the Appropriations committee, the Select Agencies subcommittee, Education committee, Local and County Government committee, the Revenue and Taxation committee, and Administrative Rules committee.
Born and raised on her family farm in Southern Illinois, Sacchieri says her roots run deep in conservative governance, a love of Christ, and the strong belief that you help your neighbors out when they are down, not wait for the government to step in and solve our problems.
Sacchieri has been a teacher and coach at Newcastle, and has served as McClain County Assessor. Sacchieri has been married to her husband Ray for eight years and they have three boys, Sam, Denver and Huck. The Sacchieris call Bl a ncha rd home, where Ray’s family has lived for several generations.
Jonathan Wilk serves as State Representative for House District 20, which includes Newcastle, and Cleveland and McClain Counties. He was elected to the Oklahoma House of Representatives for the 60th Legislature Wilk is the vice chair of the transportation committee. He is a member of the A&B Natural Resources subcommittee, the Wildlife committee, the Commerce & Economic Development Oversight committee, and the Conference Committee on Commerce and Economic Development Oversight.
Wilk has 23 years of service as a firefighter as well as experience in the oil and gas industry, ranching, law enforcement, and small business ownership.
Wilk and his wife have been married for 22 years, have three sons, and attend Goldsby Church.
Sacchieri plans to speak about appropriations which includes education increases, COLAs, new legislation including insurance regulation, child care, and appointment confirmations from District 43.
She said she’ll discuss the state questions on the November ballot, and then wrap up with interim studies she’s involved with — one on property tax bonding, and the second on data centers.
Wilk said he plans to discuss the future with a new governor, the state questions coming up, the budget, and possibly data centers, and a potential property tax cap and potential for burden shift for homestead to ag. land.
