The City of Newcastle welcomed a new police officer and honored another for 25 years of service during the City Council’s August 10 regular meeting.
Mayor Karl Nail administered the oath of office to Officer Daniel Thompson, who graduated just days before from the Council on Law Enforcement Education and Training (CLEET) Basic Academy at East Central University in Ada. The mayor also recognized Sergeant David Bristol for 25 years of service to the City of Newcastle.
Thompson was joined at the meeting by family members and fellow Newcastle officers as he took his oath and officially began his service with the Newcastle Police Department.
“Officer Thompson has already impressed us with his performance at the academy, and we’re proud to welcome him to Newcastle,” Police Chief Toby Garver said.
Thompson completed 16 weeks and approximately 600 hours of intensive training through the CLEET Basic Academy, which is required for new full-time peace officers in Oklahoma. The academy combines classroom instruction with practical and scenario-based training in areas including criminal and traffic law, firearms, emergency vehicle operations, defensive tactics, first aid and investigations.
While Thompson is beginning his law enforcement career in Newcastle, Bristol’s recognition reflects a quarter-century of service to the community. During his career, Bristol has continued to develop his skills and take on new responsibilities within the department. He now specializes in investigative work, where his experience and problem-solving abilities are applied to complex criminal cases.
“Sergeant Bristol has spent 25 years serving this community while continuing to grow, bring new ideas and take on new challenges,” Garver said. “Seeing our officers and their families come together for milestones like these speaks to the strength of our team.”
The Police Chief said the two milestones also provided an opportunity to recognize the support Newcastle officers provide one another throughout their careers.
