Chickasaw Nation Health Newcastle Medical Center is on its way
Agroundbreaking ceremony was at 9:30 a.m. Friday for the new Chickasaw Nation Health Newcastle Medical Center. Here is what you need to know:
• The Chickasaw Nation Health Newcastle Medical Center is located at the intersection of S.W. 16th St. and U.S. Interstate 62.
• Upon completion, the nearly 2.5 million-square-foot medical campus will include 12 buildings and 140 inpatient beds.
• The July 31 groundbreaking launched the first 700,000-square-foot construction phase.
• There will be 50 inpatient beds, an emergency department, surgical suites and a multitude of specialty services and research space.
• It includes labor and delivery, family medicine, pediatrics, behavioral health, dental clinics, and a pharmacy. These are included in the first phase of construction.
• The Chickasaw Nation Health Newcastle Medical Center will be one of the largest and most comprehensive First American hospitals in the United States.
• The facility will employ more than 5,500 staff upon full completion.
• The Chickasaw Nation Health Newcastle Medical Center will serve more than 100,000 First Americans in the region.
• The project is a collaboration between the Chickasaw Nation and the Indian Health Service (IHS) Joint Venture Program, where the Chickasaw Nation funds the construction and equips the buildings and IHS partially funds the staff.
