Last week, “B” Patrol Shift had the privilege of welcoming Girl Scouts Troop 3064 to the Newcastle Police Department.
Corporal Jared Slentz and Corporal Drew Griffith gave the troop a behind- the-scenes look at the department, walking them through the officers’ room, interview rooms, holding area, sallyport, conference room, and training room. Along the way, the scouts asked questions about police work, K-9s, traffic stops, and what it takes to become an officer.
The officers said one of the best parts of the visit was seeing the experience through their eyes — the curiosity, the excitement, and the chance to connect what they see in the community with the people who serve it.
In the training room, Cpl. Griffith used the whiteboard to walk through how officers conduct traffic stops, while Cpl. Slentz and Lt. Debbeelee Mauldin helped answer questions.
Megan Johnson, the troop’s “troop mama,” asked to share the visit on social media and said she loves seeing police officers shown engaging with the community.
