Murray, Southern win County Commissioner seats, Wilk beats Fullerton

Glen Murray and Joe Southern came out with the most votes in the McClain County Commissioner race last Tuesday.

Murray, the incumbent, will serve in District 1 and Southern will serve in District 3. Southern takes the place of the retiring Terry Daniel.

No Democrats filed for the office of McClain County Commissioner, so the winners of the Primary Election are the winners of the office, with no General Election necessary.

Murray was on the Republican Primary Election ballot with Terry Dwaine Hillis, Jr. Murray had 1,185 votes to Hillis’s 429. Southern won the District 3 seat with 1,076 votes, compared to Scott Carroll’s 850.

Also on the ballot for Selah community residents was the question of whether to incorporate as a town, or not. The community overwhelmingly said yes to incorporation by a vote of 25 yes votes to only one no vote. Selah will become McClain County’s newest incorporated community.

In other local election results, incumbent Jonathan Wilk, of Goldsby, beat Mike Fullerton, of Newcastle, in the State House District 20 Republican primary, winning 68.80% of the vote. Wilk had 3,487 votes to Fullerton’s 1,581 votes. Wilk will now face Democrat Chris May of Noble in the General Election.

Republican Tom Cole retained the Republican nomination for United States Representative District 4 with 71.12% of the vote, or 52,694 votes. Mitchell Jacob won outright the Democrat nomination for United States Representative District 4 with 54.44% of the vote, or 33,485 votes. He beat Jeff Pixley, who had 15,257 votes. Cole and Jacob will be on the ballot for the General Election.

In the Democrat Primary Election for United States Senator, N’Kiyla Jasmine Thomas was the lead vote getter with 76,271. Next was Jim Priest with 40,282. No one had the 50% needed to earn the Democrat nomination so these two will be in the August Runoff Primary Election.
