A sign at the pond at Veterans Park in Newcastle says “no swimming or wading.” City officials warned parents last week that some young people were jumping from the bridge and into the pond. The sign also says, “In case of emergency, call 911.” Officials said the pond is only about three-feet deep at the bridge and a jumper could be severely injured.
