The annual Newcastle Friends of the Library Book Sale and Vendor Sale is from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday, June 6. At the same time, there will be two raffles underway which conclude at the end of the Book Sale.
For those who have never been to the Library Book Sale, this is the time of year you can purchase a bag full of books for only $5.
The Book Sale is in the Library’s Community Room, 705 N.W. 10th Street. There will also be 25 craft vendors with their wares for participants to peruse and purchase.
Funds made from the Book Sale go back into the library for things such as the Summer Reading Program.
Library Associate Amy Smith said, “The Friends of the Library have spent the past year collecting book donations from the community and storing them through the generosity of Sooner State Bank in preparation for this annual event.”
Friends of the Library spokesperson Charlene Phillips said, “Without Sooner State Bank, we wouldn’t have near this many books, and we have a lot.” All proceeds from the sale directly support library programming, events, and services for the Newcastle community.
“The sale is also part of a larger summer of programming tied to the Pioneer Library System’s Summer Learning Challenge,” Smith said. “This summer’s schedule includes family programs, STEAM activities, educational performances, teen programming, wellness events, and literacy initiatives for all ages.”
Smith said in addition to the book and vendor sale, attendees will have the opportunity to participate in two raffles benefiting the library and Newcastle Public Schools. The first, she said, is a Homemade Quilt Raffle, featuring a beautiful handmade quilt.
Proceeds from the quilt raffle will go directly to the Friends of the Library to support library programming and events throughout the year. Smith said the second is the Stuff the Bus STEAM Kit Raffle, with raffle items provided by Lakeshore Learning. One hundred percent of the raffle proceeds will go toward providing fully stocked backpacks and school supplies for 170 Newcastle students in 2nd through 5th grade for the 2026–2027 school year.
