Newcastle Chamber of Commerce awards 5 Racers for Excellence Scholarships to deserving NHS students
Five Racers for Excellence scholarships were awarded Thursday, May 14 at the Newcastle High School auditorium to deserving NHS students by the Newcastle Chamber of Commerce.
Receiving scholarships were NHS seniors Rylee Furnish, Bella Allen, Amber Ellis, Kolton Brammer, and Zane Cragg.
Furnish was awarded the Mona Brite Scholarship. She is a student whose passion for helping others has inspired her to pursue a career in Speech Pathology.
Allen is the recipient of the Patti Manness Scholarship. Allen is recognized as a student who is committed to improving the lives of others through Physical Therapy.
Amber Ellis was awarded the Cindy Frizzell Scholarship. Ellis is being honored as a student dedicated to serving others through a future career in the medical field.
This year, there were two Gene Reid Scholarships awarded. The first was awarded to Brammer.
He is pursuing a career in Sports Medicine, combining his love for athletics with a commitment to health and wellness.
The second recipient is Cragg. He has chosen a path of service and protection through a career in Law Enforcement.
Newcastle Chamber CEO/ Executive Director Gayla Riddle said, “Please join me in congratulating these outstanding students and wishing them continued success as they pursue their dreams and make a positive impact on the world.
Riddle said the scholarships are made possible through the generous support of Chamber members and community partners who dedicate their time, resources, and commitment to investing in the future of Newcastle’s students.
The Chamber’s Scholarship Committee is led by Chair Ella Murguia. Other members are Adriana and Gabe Guardado, Alicia Anthony, Claudia Mc-Donnell, Jayna Cinnamon, Linda Tyler, Madalyn Heathco, Michael Edmonds, Mindy Bellack, Robin Fielder, and Stephanie Branscum.
Riddle said the four scholarships offered by the Chamber each year are presented in honor of their namesakes, whose lives and service have left a lasting impact on the community.
