The Newcastle Public Library and the Pioneer Library System have launched this year’s Summer Learning Challeng. It began May 1 and will run through August 15!
This year, the Newcastle Friends of the Library are offering $5 gift cards to Braum’s or Flying Java for adults (18+) who complete the challenge.
Pioneer Library System is also providing grand prizes for each age group:
• Ages 0–5: Water table (1 available for Newcastle)
• Ages 6–11: Sketching projector (2 available for Newcastle) • Ages 12–17: AirPods (1 available for Newcastle)
• Ages 18+: Video bird feeder (1 available for Newcastle) In addition, the Newcastle Friends of the Library are sponsoring a bonus grand prize: a family four-pack to the Oklahoma City Zoo.
Participants earn one entry into the grand prize drawings for every 1,000 points (1 point = 1 minute of learning). Pioneer’s grand prizes include automatic entries when minutes are tracked through Beanstack (available on the PLS Connect app, the Pioneer website, or your phones app store) or turning in a paper log.
To enter the OKC Zoo drawing, participants must pick up a raffle ticket at the Newcastle library each time they reach 1,000 points.
Minutes can be logged online through the app or on a paper log. Paper logs can be picked up at the library and turned in every Friday for a librarian to enter.
Pioneer’s system-wide goal is 20 million minutes of learning. When we reach that goal, the Pioneer Library System Foundation will donate books to children enrolled in WIC programs.
Organizers of the Summer Learning Challenge said, “Be sure to visit the children’s section at the Newcastle Public Library for a photo op! You can pick up paper logs, check out prize and swag options, and snap a picture to celebrate your learning journey.”
