Racer Soccer ends season at State quarterfinals

A State quarterfinal loss to Sallisaw Monday afternoon ended the Newcastle Racers soccer team’s 2026 season.

The 3-2 loss sends Sallisaw into the semi-finals. The OSSAA Class 4A State game started on Friday. With the game tied at 1-1 and just starting the second half, the game was rain delayed. It continued at noon on Monday at Sallisaw.

The Racers beat Madill, 3-0, in the first round of the State playoffs. Newcastle finished the year with a 14-3 record overall, and in third place in District with a 5-2 record.

The Racer girls played Bethany on May 5 in the first round of the State playoffs, but lost 5-1 to end their season. The girls finished the season 12-4 overall and in fourth place with a 6-2 record in District. Bethany beat Holland Hall, 3-0, in the quarterfinals, and was scheduled to play Metro Christian in the semifinals.
