Stamp Out Hunger by donating items this Saturday

It is time for the annual Postal Carrier Food Drive, where area residents go through their cupboards to find items to donate. This year all donations from the Newcastle area will go to the Tri City Hope Center.

into the Hope Center’s pantry to be redistributed to local residents in need.

Try City Hope Center Director Shannon Kowals said, “Keep an eye out for the ‘Stamp Out Hunger Food Drive’ bag in your mailbox this week, then on Saturday, fill it up with non-expired, non-perishable goodies and leave it by your mailbox.”

She said the Newcastle postal carriers will be picking up the donations on their Saturday morning routes, and the Hope Center will have extra teams out helping to collect.

She added, “The earlier you set your bag out, the better.”

Kowals said the Newcastle community’s past support has been incredible, and has made a real difference for area families.

“We’re so grateful,” Kowals said. “Let’s come together again and make a big impact.”

Food drive organizations said the most needed items are canned meats, meatbased soups, canned fruits, canned vegetables, peanut butter, rice and beans. No glass, perishable goods, or homemade items can be accepted.

Those who have a post office box instead of home delivery, can take their donated items to the Newcastle Post Office anytime from today through Saturday.
