If you are looking for something to do this weekend, look no further than Newcastle. It’s time for the annual Citywide Garage Sale, the Parks Department will be flying kites at Veterans Park, and the annual Tri-City Cruisers Car Show is Saturday.
Citywide Garage Sale
Newcastle’s Citywide Garage Sale has been planned by the City starting today — Thursday, April 23 and continuing through Sunday.
This is a weekend where area residents can have a sale and not worry about paying the normally required permit fee. City Parks & Recreation officials said if you will be hosting a sale, register online at newcastleok.gov/garagesale.
An official map is being created and all garage sales that are registered before registration closes, will have their addresses listed. The map will be available online through the City.
Officials said this is a perfect time to clean out your garage, your closets, and your attics, and maybe score a little cash for those items.
Kite Flying at the Park
The skies above Veterans Park will be filled with colorful kites from 1-3 p.m. tomorrow (Friday), some owned by individuals and some provided by the City of Newcastle Parks & Recreation.
Kyle Marks, Parks and Recreation director, said this is a Pop-Up activity offered by the City to promote outdoor play. He said it is dependent on the weather and wind conditions but all are invited to take part.
Tri-City Cruisers Annual Car Show This year’s Tri-City Cruisers Annual Open Car Show is from 8 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. on Saturday.
The Car Show is at 414 N.W. 32nd Street in Newcastle, just behind the Braum’s Ice Cream and Dairy Store.
The public is encouraged to come out and look over the show entries, and also vote for their fan favorite.
Last year there were more than 300 cars attending with all sorts of makes, models and years.
There will be valve cover racing, a disc jockey playing music, a food trailer put on by the Boy Scouts, a Silent Auction, door prizes, and a 50/50 giveaway.
Because the event has had to deal with rain storms in the past, a rain date has been set for the next weekend — on May 2.
