Candidates McCall, Sturgell, Janloo, Taylor coming to Newcastle to address County GOP

McClain County GOP will have four visitors during their 7 p.m monthly meeting on Monday April 20 at the Newcastle Storm Shelter, 851 North Carr Drive.

They will be hearing from different candidates including Charles McCall and Kenneth Sturgell, candidates for Governor of Oklahoma, Lisa Janloo, candidate for Oklahoma Labor Commissioner, and Dr. James Taylor, candidate for Oklahoma State Superintendent.

McCall is Oklahoma’s longest- serving Speaker of the House and a fifth-generation Oklahoman with roots in faith, family and rural values. First elected in 2012 and chosen as Speaker in 2016, McCall made history as the first Republican from House District 22 and the first GOP speaker from Southeastern Oklahoma. Under his leadership, Oklahoma went from budget shortfalls to record surpluses and from government dysfunction to national recognition for economic strength and fiscal stability. Now, McCall said he is running for governor to make Oklahoma strong with the same conservative leadership, conservative values, and commitment to results that Oklahomans can trust.

Sturgell shares that he is against abortion, and will continue to fight for 2nd Amendment rights, and against mandatory vaccinations. Sturgell states that all books with sexual content will be removed from the public schools if they have not been already. Sturgell believes in smaller government and lowering the tax burden on the retired community. Sturgell said he will do this by putting God first, family second, and country third.

Janloo is a business owner, job creator, and Republican candidate for Oklahoma Labor Commissioner with over a decade of experience helping Oklahomans find work including veterans, youth, and individuals overcoming hardship. Janloo brings leadership with a results-driven approach to strengthening Oklahoma’s workforce. Collaborating closely with schools and community organizations to prepare the next generation for success, Janloo is committed to supporting job creators, expanding opportunities, and building a stronger future for all Oklahomans. She said she brings common sense, real experience, and proven results.

Dr. James Taylor teaches history and government. Taylor believes that knowledge is the key to breaking the chains of poverty and has witnessed it firsthand from his students. He is also senior pastor of First Christ’s Church of Norman. Taylor is concerned about teacher shortages and low salaries compared to neighboring states, and says low public confidence in the education system has contributed to the shortages. Taylor states it is critical that the legislators work with the Department of Education, educators, and parents, to create laws that enhance the learning experience rather than distract from learning.
